Formation of the Commission for Monitoring Interconnected Networks for improvement of inter-agency coordination in the fight against corruption.

On 23rd and 24th March, in Panama City, the First Meeting of the Commission for Monitoring Interconnected Networks for improving inter-agency coordination in the fight against economic-financial crimes linked to corruption

This initiative, supported through the "Transparency and Anti-Corruption" action of the EUROsociAL II programme, monitors collaboration between the main networks in the justice sector and the superior audit institutions that participate in this initiative (Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors; Inter-American Centre for Tax Administrations; Conference of Ministries of Justice of Ibero-American Countries; Ibero-American Judicial Summit; and Caribbean Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions). These institutions in 2014 established an ad-hoc Working Group, in the framework of which a base document was prepared which agreed on a series of principles and recommendations for improved inter-agency coordination between the institutions that intervene in the prosecution and punishment of these types of crimes.

In this context, the meeting served to formally constitute the Monitoring Commission, to approve its operating guidelines, and to set the priority lines that will govern its work. These were collected in an Action Plan for the 2015-2016 period.

The purpose of this commission is to provide inter-agency support to the different networks to implement the different agreed upon recommendations, assisting the over 100 State institutions that make up these networks in the implementation of practical measures in the area of inter-agency coordination.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Inter-American Centre for Tax Administrations (CIAT), is part of the anti-corruption action, the execution of which was entrusted to the Conference of Ministries of Justice of Ibero-American Countries (COMJIB) as part of the democratic institutions area of the European Union's EUROsociAL Programme. It is being coordinated by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP).
