Equity in health: EUROsociAL presents its results in the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
Concern over equity is at the centre of discussions on the post-2015 health agenda
Within this framework, most Latin American countries are advancing towards the construction of equity monitoring systems to achieve universal and equitable healthcare systems.
On 15th and 16th June, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) brought together key stakeholders in Washington to address these issues in a symposium on “Health Equity and the post-2015 Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean”.
On the first day, the PAHO presented the State of Inequality report for Latin America and the Caribbean and the resources available for monitoring inequality. The symposium on the second day included a session on social cohesion and equity in which Dr Rita Ferrelli, of Italy's Istituto Superiore di Sanità—EUROsociAL's operational partner—presented the social cohesion and health equity focus and the results achieved in the Monitoring Health Equity working line, demonstrating the importance of the work on social determinants of health to counter inequities.
