Paraguay is to have an information system capable of detecting students at risk of early school leaving

In connection with this, Paraguayan technicians from the Ministry of Education and Culture visited the Unit of the National Education Information System of the Secretariat of Education of the Republic of Honduras

The visit, from 29 June to 3 July, was organised in order to share experiences and identify lessons learned in the development and implementation of the Unified Student Record of the Secretariat of Education of Honduras.

The Unified Student Record is a successful system that has been implemented in Honduras to identify students at risk of failure and early school leaving. It is developed and implemented by the Unit of the National Education Information System of the Secretariat of Education.

The information shared by both countries enabled them to identify the basic tools that will be used to finalise the plan being devised by Paraguay with support from EUROsociAL to introduce the Unified Student Information Registry. It has also helped to strengthen participating technicians' skills in areas such as early detection and prevention of school failure and early leaving based on data about the students.

The policies of attention and the design and implementation of these strategies, are dependent on the availability of information about students in order to take decisions about effective and efficient policies and actions for improving educational quality, inclusion and lengthening the time that students in education in the country.

The work plan includes work meetings and in situ visits to educational institutions to observe how data is compiled and processed in different settings, and to conduct interviews with intermediate level leaders to share experiences and strategies for preventing school failure and early school leaving.

This activity falls within the framework of the education area of the EUROsociAL II Programme of the European Union. The area is lead by the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture as technical executing partner, and the Italo-Latin American Institute as the coordinating partner.
