Knowledge Management Area of EUROsociAL

The knowledge generated and shared within the framework of experience exchanges is one of the essential assets of EUROsociAL and, as a result, the comprehensive system for managing knowledge has been one of the basic pillars of the programme's activity. While systematically documenting both the results of the activities and the processes used to achieve them, contributions from all participants in the programme are fed into this comprehensive system. This participatory dynamic has facilitated collective learning and been conceptualised as a reference on policy and institutional reform for social cohesion.

In turn, disseminating this knowledge and making it accessible to different publics, not only internal but also external ones that may be interested in the programme, is a fundamental communication task linked to the previous one, as well as to the transparency and accountability of EUROsociAL's work.

From this standpoint, knowledge management necessarily involves a close link between the information, communication and visibility of the programme. In this line, a strategy has been developed oriented towards generating optimal conditions for the information and knowledge generated by the programme to be shared and disseminated in the best manner possible with the aim of facilitating its use and reuse, and the generation of more and better knowledge. This has meant the implementation of different instruments, platforms and media to satisfy different communication needs for multiple publics with different needs and potential interests.

The main interconnected tools are the website, a window into EUROsociAL which additionally recovered its original domain; the SIA information system, a solid base of documentation that contains all of the programme's technical information; and the online library, an expression of the knowledge generated and accumulated by the programme in its five years of operation. On a complementary basis, online spaces and profiles have been developed to position the programme squarely in the latest social communication trends.

These varied instruments implemented within the programme to articulate the strategy for knowledge management and communication are at the service of complementary objectives, and they receive feedback from each other. In this sense, the added value is precisely this coordination between the tools and how they facilitate access to information through different channels, with specific features tailored to different publics so that anyone who approaches the programme can find the information they are looking for easily and intuitively.

This ambitious objective has been achieved thanks to a continuous process of improvement and adaptation that remains open. The richness of the programme, its institutional architecture, and the flexibility that characterises it, have presented opportunities and important challenges in terms of anticipating the variety of needs to be addressed at any given moment. This process has represented an enormous job of documenting, conceptualising, and also of learning.
