In recent years, Latin America has advanced notably in terms of placing the problem of corruption on government agendas. There has been improvement in legal and institutional frameworks, the majority of countries have become parties to different international treaties and initiatives, and important steps have been taken in transparency and citizen access to public information.

Although the different institutions have gradually seen the possibilities of involving citizens in the prevention and detection of cases of corruption, problems of transparency, public access to information, and adequate access channels for handling citizens complaints persist. Along these lines, EUROsociAL is joining this working line by supporting efforts to achieve greater collaboration from society in the prevention and detection of cases of corruption.
