Gender approach
EUROsociAL's commitment to gender equality
Inequality between women and men is a structural phenomenon that cuts across societies and undermines the enjoyment of rights by and the welfare of women, overlapping with other sources of inequality.
Acutely aware of the importance of inequality between men and women for social cohesion, the EUROsociAL programme has, since its inception, demonstrated an active commitment to gender equality through diverse actions aimed at promoting incorporation of the gender focus, both in the area of programming and development of EUROsociAL activities and in the public policies that the programme assists or supports.
EUROsociAL has supported policies or policy instruments with significant effects on gender equality in Latin America, mainly in the area of specific policies for preventing gender violence and for protecting vulnerable groups of women. In addition, the programme has supported social, education and health policies that have contemplated gender differences in their formulation or implementation. Along these lines, meaningful interventions exist in the different thematic areas which have placed the spotlight on or influenced issues present on the region's agenda for improving protection and opportunities for women, and their rights in general.
