Tax agencies of Mexico and the United Kingdom exchange experiences in the area of information and communication technologies
The European Commission's EUROsociAL II programme promotes an exchange visit by members of the General Communications and Information Technologies Agency of the SAT (Mexico) to the HMRC (United Kingdom)
The participants from the Mexican Tax Administration Service (SAT) were: Juan Manuel Galarza y Mercado, General Administrator of Communication and Information Technologies; and Daniel Gómez Alba, Central Administrator of Application Development and Maintenance. The participants from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) were: Brigid McBride, Head of Digital Services, as well as the managers responsible for the most relevant projects and operations.
This first exchange visit with the HMRC covered its current situation and work plan in the area of information and communication technology (ICT), as well as its digital strategy: the use of cloud technologies, mobile platforms and big data.
The great openness of the HMRC facilitated open dialogue that made for a rich discussion on both sides. The experiences of the HMRC can be applied in Mexico because of the great similarities between the two agencies, notably in their schemes for implementing strategic initiatives in which taxpayers and interested third parties participate in the definition of policies and implementation of solutions, strategies for building technical skills in the HMRC, and specific projects such as risk management and the adoption of agile methodologies.
This activity is part of the “Promotion of voluntary compliance with tax obligations” action of the Public Finance area of the EUROsociAL programme.
