Strengthening inter-agency coordination strategies to fight corruption in Costa Rica

EUROsociAL supports the design and development process for an inter-agency coordination model to fight economic-financial crimes linked to corruption in Costa Rica

The technical assistance mission, whose working agenda was developed from 13th to 17th April, will be oriented towards learning about and gaining in-depth understanding of the joint work done by the institutions involved in this area, and specifically towards analysing coordination needs and the possibilities for exchanging information between them.

In this context, contact was made with representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Judiciary, the Judicial Investigation Department (OIJ), the Office of Cooperation and International Relations of the Judiciary (OCRI), the Ministry of Finance, and the Financial Intelligence Unit.

The information collected in the interviews with the different institutions was shared in a workshop with all the bodies involved, held on Thursday, 16th April, for the purpose of designing an inter-agency coordination strategy in this area.

Based on the inputs collected by the different institutions and the needs identified, a series of measures to be implemented in coming phase of the process will be proposed for the purpose of contributing to improving coordination and effectiveness in the fight against economic-financial crimes linked to corruption.

This activity is within the framework of the EUROsociAL II Programme's Fighting Corruption Action, being executed by the Conference of Conference of Ministries of Justice of the Ibero-American Countries (COMJIB) as part of the Democratic Institutions area coordinated by the Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP).
