The launch of the Euro-Latin American Tax Education Network took place on 27th July in the Bolivian city of La Paz. The event, organised by EUROsociAL with the support of Bolivia's National Tax Service (SIN), included the participation of representatives from the tax and educational administrations of Brazil, Bulgaria, Mexico, El Salvador, Uruguay, Austria, Honduras, Italy, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Spain, Chile, Peru and Bolivia
The inauguration was led by the Deputy Minister of Tax Policy of Bolivia's Ministry of Economy and Finance, Susan Ríos; the Executive President of the SIN, Erik Ariñez Bazán; the Head of the Thematic and Technical Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation in Bolivia, Juan Planas; and the EUROsociAL Manager in the Directorate General of Development and Cooperation of the European Commission (EuropeAid), Paz Velasco. At this same event, a video on the results of the actions in the EUROsociAL tax education working line was shown (see video).
The Tax Education Network was conceived as a specialised, flexible and participatory learning space for tax and educational institutions seeking to strengthen public policies on tax education.
At the first Assembly of the Network, held on 28th July, the Presidency was entrusted to Brazil's Receita Federal, and the Permanent Secretariat was assumed by Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT). The Executive Committee of the Network also includes the Honduran Executive Directorate of Revenue, the Uruguayan Directorate-General of Taxes, and the Guatemalan Superintendency of Tax Administration. The meeting also served to prepare the general lines of the Network's first work plan for its different commissions and to present the Internet portal promoted by EUROsociAL: educacionfiscal.org.
The launch of the Network was held within the framework of an international workshop on tax education, at which the book “Promoting Tax Culture, Tax Compliance and Citizenship” was presented by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and EUROsociAL on 28th July in an event at the Museum of Ethnography and Folklore (MUSEF). In addition, from 29th to 31st July there was a workshop on communication strategies and tax education.
It should also be noted that the activity helped the countries to learn in detail about Bolivia's outstanding tax education experiences, such as the radio programme “Taxes Made Easy”, with a special international programme, the Accounting and Tax Support Centre (NAF) of the Public University of El Alto, and the recreational-educational space located in the SIN's facilities, among others.
